“But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” (Genesis 39:21 KJV)
Sometimes life can seem a bit sad. We feel trapped in a place beyond our control. We want to leave but can’t. Feeling this way isn’t can be hard to deal with, especially if we’ve been feeling this way for a long time. It feels like torture. We may want to scream for help, but we can’t figure out the words that will change anything. So, we suffer in silence, but we don’t have to suffer because there’s one who will listen and rescue us.
Joseph was in a situation of isolation (being or feeling alone without anyone able to help). He was thrown into a pit by his brothers who sold him into slavery who were jealous of him because of the promises God gave Joseph. He was bought and served in Egypt. While there, he was wrongly accused of harming his boss’s wife and thrown into jail. Without God, Joseph’s hopeless, lonely, scary, and dark place could have been even darker. But, when you have God, and He gives you promises, you have hope.
Many times, when we’re in desperate places in life, we want to find our own way out. We try to run away from our pain and trouble with drugs and alcohol, even walking away from Him, instead of running to God – the only One who can help us. You don’t have to do anything wrong to be in such a place. Joseph didn’t do anything wrong. He was wrongly accused and could have been angry with God for letting him go into jail in the first place. Joseph had a lot of people to be angry with: God, his brothers, his boss, and his boss’ wife. He could have meditated on (kept thinking about) the people who wrongly accused him and on God not saving him from prison. But, he knew God was with him. So, he kept his faith.
God never forgot about Joseph and set up a series of events that would lead, not only to Joseph’s freedom, but also to him ruling over all the people of Egypt. Joseph was appointed (put in) the highest position under Pharaoh. He was in place to help his family during a terrible famine, all because God gave him a promise long ago. When you’re in a hard situation and you don’t feel like anyone is helping or can help you, remember the promises of God are “Yes” and “Amen”, which means God keeps His promises.
He kept them with Joseph, and He will keep them with you.
What promises has God made you?
Prayer: Yes, God, I receive Your Promises and Amen let it be as you say.
